Summary

The estimation of radiation impacts during normal operation of dry spent fuel storage facility (ISF-2) for ChNPP RBMK reactors, designed for long-term storage of spent fuel assemblies (SFA), which originated from the op-eration 1, 2 and 3 units of ChNPP was made. Calculations have shown that the release of individual radionuclides is less than 1010 Bq/year. At that, the total projected emissions will not exceed 3% of the allowable emissions. It is shown that the maximum concentration of radionuclides in the air near the ISF-2 well below allowable concentration for the population, and additional pollution is negligible in comparison with the existing one. The maximum possible additional specific activity of 137Cs and 90Sr in the water of the river Pripyat will be respectively not more than 3.5·10-3 and 2.2·10-6 Bq/m3, which is an insignificant amount compared to the current volume activity of 0.05 and 0.12 kBq/m3 re-spectively. The maximum possible value of the additional density of surface contamination will be less than 0.1 % of the actual soil contamination.

Keywords: storage, nuclear fuel, emissions, environment.
